About Central Texas Metal Buildings

Central Texas Metal Buildings is operated by Compass Camper LLC, an Oregon-registered marketing company doing business as Compass Lead Group. We are not a metal building construction contractor and we do not perform metal building construction work.

The site does two things. It publishes, for six Austin-area counties, which office permits a metal building and what that office asks for, each answer taken from the agency's own page and dated. And it introduces a property owner who wants a building priced to one independent local contractor who works that county.

Four things the contractor has agreed to

• Carry general liability insurance that is in force.
• Put the estimate in writing, line by line, before starting.
• Work under a written contract that says how a change gets priced.
• Register the project with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and take it through accessibility plan review and inspection, whenever the estimated construction cost reaches $50,000 and the building is not a private residence.

Those four sit in our agreement with the contractor. They are not a background check, and the certificate of insurance is yours to ask for before the first truck arrives.

A license is not on the list because there is none to hold. No state license exists in Texas for anyone who builds a house or works as a general contractor. The Department of Licensing and Regulation's list of 41 regulated industries has no program for either, and the Sunset Advisory Commission records that the Texas Residential Construction Commission was not continued by the Legislature in 2009 and its Act expired September 1, 2009. The trades that do carry state licenses, electrical, air conditioning and plumbing, hold them separately from the builder.

How the facts on this site are handled

Every sentence about a permit, a fee, a code or a program on this site reads from one record, and every record names where it came from and when it was read. Where a county's site lists no permit for a building, the page says exactly that. Where the only thing an agency offers is a map viewer or an address lookup, the page sends you to it rather than telling you what it would show. You will not find testimonials, crew photographs, project counts or awards on these pages, because a site this new has none that would be true.
